Good Morning All,
A lot has happened since Friday and I appreciate the quick and sure response of the Library Board of Trustees, my staff and our patrons. I acted on the word of Dennis Stark, County Manager in my decision to rally the troops to inform the Commissioners of the value of libraries in our communities. With budgets being what they are, I simply could not stand by and hope the Commissioners were not considering closing the libraries as a valid option. If I was acting under "rumor", the rumor was planted by the County Manager. I admit, however, that I underestimated the voracity and volume of response my plea would generate. It is humbling to know the overwhelming support the libraries have from our patrons and the library community around the state.
At this time, I would like to advise my staff to pull back on the reigns of advocacy. The Commissioners have difficult days ahead and they need an opportunity to carefully consider all of the choices before them. Any choice they make will have financial and emotional consequences for years to come.
I ask that my Board of Trustees keep in contact with their respective Commissioner from their community. There are still a lot of unanswered questions and concerns.
We have a long and difficult week ahead. Let's concentrate on tasks we must complete and provide factual and solid information for those still concerned with the possible closure of the library system in Lyon County. If there are questions or issues that I can address, please e-mail me or call my cell phone at 443-5245.
Thank-you.
Theresa Kenneston, Library Director Lyon County Library System
