Dear Commissioner Hunewill:

We read the agenda for your February 18, 2010, Commissioners meeting with amazement.  We could hardly believe that the Fair Board is requesting that two dirt bike races be held on the Yerington  Fairgrounds track so they can assess and "report on possible solutions  to noise and dust complaints."

At your September 3, 2009, meeting, you approved a contract for two races with an addendum that required the track be removed after the second race.  The second race concluded on November 8, 2009, and as of today, that track is still present on county property.  The track is still there in violation of the contract presented by Mustang  Motorplex with the Fair Board acting as their agents.

Now the Fair Board is returning to you to request races for Mustang  Motorplex after you Commissioners denied a request for races in 2010.   Their statement that they want to find solutions to residents' complaints is, in our opinion, a blatant falsehood.  When we attended Fair Board meetings in 2002, right after the acreage next to our properties was purchased, we were assured that residents' concerns  would be considered.  The Fair Board has promised barriers, buffer zones, trees and landscaping, security fences, etc., and none of these things has materialized.  And now, with the present economy, how can the Fair Board hope to solve any "noise and dust complaints"?

The request for races in order to "report on possible solutions" is an attempt to make an end run, not just around the legitimate concerns  of residents near the Fairgrounds, but also around the previous vote  of the County Commissioners.  Despite any claims to the contrary, Mustang Motorplex and the Lyon County Fair Board have not been  "working with neighbors" near the Fairgrounds.  Meanwhile, our  neighbors, especially the residents on the east side of Cottonwood  Lane who have the most to lose from a motocross track in their  backyards, have spent much time and energy locating more suitable  locations for a motocross track only to have their recommendations  ignored.

We respectfully request that you again vote no on any motocross races at the Fairgrounds and order that the track be removed.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Mike and Cheryl Hagen
