Slow news days
September 9, 2009 -

Not only am I now at our Montana abode through October 5for our annual Fall visit, but the Commissioner agenda for the September 3 meeting (which I was not able to attend) was rather bland…and there will be no commission meeting on September 17. In other words, news will be a bit scarce in the coming weeks.

The only news of substance out of the September 3 meeting:

     • The Commissioners performed their annual evaluation of the County Manager. In the next day or two I will   summarize this information for you.

     • A request for a business license for Dennis Hof under the name of the Bunny Ranch Business Park. This was (according to the County Manager) pulled off the agenda at Mr. Hof’s request.

This issue of whether to allow Mr. Hof a business license under this name had already been continued from the previous meeting.

Commissioners have expressed concern that the rather prominent, illuminated sign on Highway 50 at the entrance to this business park will be used to skirt county ordinances relating to brothel advertising. Hof’s attorney, in a letter to the District Attorney, said “Hof assures me the business park sign is not meant in any manner to advertise the brothel or to be an ‘end around’ the sign limitations.”

And we all know Mr. Hof would never consider such a devious action…….In any event, this issue waits to be debated another day!

The September 17 meeting is canceled to enable commissioner and staff attendance at the annual Nevada Association of Counties meeting. In lieu of the probable lack of news, those of you who care to look will be subjected to occasional pictures of life here in the shadows of the Beartooth-Absorka range of Montana.
